Delphic Oracle

Since ancient times, and certainly by the year
2222 B.C., the sacred site was known
for its mysterious cave that issued forth fumes from the earth. These fumes were
said to induce a prophetic trance, and eventually a temple complex
grew up around the sacred cave.
