Recent scholars have found that most of the Delphic Oracle's responses were in fact straightforward commands on religious matters and, occasionally on public or private affairs. frenzy of the Pythia, no incoherent cries interpreted by priests. The
Pythia spoke clearly, coherently, and directly to the petitioner in
