Reincarnation
Gyalwa Karmapa (left,)
is leader of Tibetan Buddhism's second most important sect. The Karmapa's
monastary is at Rumtek in Sikkim. The young monk, pictured here
in a 1994 photo, is the 17th incarnation of this spiritual dynasty.
Like other Tibetan Buddhist spiritual
leaders he incarnates through many lifetimes to teach and guide his
followers. What makes him unique, however, is that before his death
he always predicts where, when and to whom he will be reborn
