National Airport Control Tower, Washington, D.C.
- 8:30 PM, July 18, 1952. Glowing lights in the sky seen by residents
of D.C. and airline pilots are confirmed by personnel in the tower.
Radar returns a 'blip' at the location of the glowing
lights. The Airforce is notified of the possible threat to the
U.S. government. 1952 had been a year of many UFO reports and
the public was beginning to demand a response from the government.
Fighter planes are scrambled from a base in Delaware
to fly to the capital and intercept the UFOs. The pilots are unsuccessful
in their attempts to engage and shoot down the flying saucers.
The lights over Washington are seen again the following weekend.
