Psychic Investigators throughout the twenties, up until 1934, studied psychic super stars, gifted mediums who could produce strange phenomena in the darkened seance room. Some psychic investigators began to become disillusioned with spiritualism's flavor of dark stuffy rooms, floating tambourines, neurotic women and scheming mediums. J.B. Rhine was one such investigator, after investigating the famous Boston medium Margery , he set up a lab at Duke University and turned to statistical studies of psychic phenomena. To go along with Rhine's new scientific approach, he coined the term "parapsychologist" to replace "psychic investigator" and soon announced that he had proven the existence of ESP in the laboratory.
